Description

For Aase Birkhaug, it’s all about roses and nature. Through her ardent belief that surroundings can influence one’s mind, health and state of being, painter and physiotherapist Aase Birkhaug combined her two passions whilst in pursuit of tranquility. The merge seems like a natural one. Her love of nature and painting was fostered from an early age and her desire to capture the aesthetic splendor of botany grew along with her artistic skills.

It is a truth, universally acknowledged that colors have an effect on the senses. With that in mind, some years ago, Birkhaug turned the waiting room in her physiotherapy office into an exhibition for her paintings and discovered that it had a positive influence on the mental state of her patients.

Aase’s aesthetic is often described as very soft and mild. She tastefully and delicately fuses together certain color combinations to create a motif that is warm, inviting and soothing to the eye.

Birkhaug discovered a sense of calmness and positivity in her own life through roses. Taking in both the sight and the smell, serves as a form of meditation. She’s thoroughly dedicated herself to evoking that same sense of stillness in her paintings.

BIrkhaug is no stranger to working and experimenting with different forms within her medium, ranging from Aquarelle and Tempera to oil, acrylics and pastels. Her desire to never stop learning and to ceaselessly create beautiful works has lead her to take art and painting classes, even til this day.

Since 1990, Birkhaug’s work has been featured and exhibited in her native Norway and abroad. This prestige is nothing new, seeing as Aase Birkhaug hails from a long line of affluent artists and creators who’ve inspired her implicitly. This includes turn of the century painter and Norwegian art school founder Anna Sofie Brunchorst Ibsen, famous poet Henrik Ibsen and acclaimed Doctor, Conrad Birkhaug.

Aase Birkhaug’s work can be seen at galleries in London, Morroco, the USA, Paris and Art Monaco 2016.
